Kash Patel Engaged: FBI Director “Got the Law Involved”
FBI Director Kash Patel is officially off the market. Patel, 46, and his longtime girlfriend — country singer and conservative commentator Alexis Wilkins, 27 — announced their engagement on Sunday after more than three years together. And because this is Washington in 2026, the happy news arrived with its own side of controversy.
“Went and Got the Law Involved”
Wilkins broke the news on social media with a black-and-white photo showing off her diamond engagement ring, captioning it: “Went and got the law involved.” Patel reposted the announcement with a heart emoji and a diamond ring emoji — the FBI director’s version of a press release.
Congratulations poured in from Trump’s orbit, including former Trump attorney Alina Habba: “This makes my heart smile. Big congratulations to my friends Alexis Wilkins and Kash Patel.” The announcement post racked up tens of thousands of likes within hours.
A Three-Year Romance in the Spotlight
The couple met at a conservative event in 2022 and began dating in early 2023. Wilkins stood beside Patel when he was sworn in as FBI director in February 2025, and their relationship has been under a microscope ever since he took one of the most powerful law enforcement jobs in Washington.
The FBI Jet Controversy
Not everyone is sending flowers. Patel previously faced criticism for using an FBI aircraft to travel to Pennsylvania for a wrestling event where Wilkins performed the national anthem. Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin mocked the trip mercilessly, joking that while FBI employees went without paychecks, the director “flew the FBI jet to State College PA, hung out with my chick, and then flew to Nashville where she lives.”
Patel fired back hard, calling the attacks on Wilkins “disgustingly baseless” and “beyond pathetic.” He described her as “a rock-solid conservative and a country music sensation who has done more for this nation than most will in ten lifetimes,” adding: “Attacking her isn’t just wrong — it’s cowardly and jeopardizes our safety.”
His spokesman, Ben Williamson, defended the travel, saying Patel reimburses the government when required and is permitted to use government aircraft because of the security protocols surrounding the FBI director. “He’s allowed to take personal time on occasion to see family, friends or his longtime girlfriend. He doesn’t do it often,” Williamson said.
Death Threats and Lawsuits
The scrutiny has had real consequences. Wilkins received an FBI protective detail after officials said she became the target of hundreds of credible death threats tied to her relationship with Patel. The FBI confirmed the detail was justified given the threat level, while some former agents questioned whether it was excessive.
Wilkins has also gone to court over the ugliest rumors. She filed lawsuits against right-wing commentators who claimed she was connected to Israeli intelligence or acting as a “honeypot” targeting Patel. Her federal complaint describes the Nashville-based singer as “a Christian, American-born, United States citizen, and is unaffiliated with any intelligence agency, much less the government of Israel.”
She’s also brushed off the chatter about the couple’s 19-year age gap, noting the relationship began years before Patel became FBI director. “I’ve blocked the word ‘honeypot’ from my Instagram comments, if that tells you anything,” she told the Daily Mail.
The Takeaway
After years of political scrutiny, public criticism, and internet conspiracy theories, Patel and Wilkins are making it official. In a town where every romance becomes a scandal and every scandal becomes a lawsuit, these two somehow found each other — and a diamond ring. Congratulations to the happy couple; condolences to everyone who now has to cover the wedding.
