Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., said Wednesday he is weighing whether to force a House vote to expel Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a move that would face long odds but underscores growing frustration among Republicans over Omar\u2019s conduct in Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fine told Axios he is \u201cactively considering\u201d introducing articles of expulsion, even though removing a sitting member requires a two-thirds vote of the House. That threshold would require significant Democratic support, making passage unlikely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fine said his comments were prompted in part by a fundraising email from Omar\u2019s campaign suggesting he be expelled for remarks in which he said Muslims should be \u201cdestroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI won\u2019t send out fundraising emails calling for her expulsion. If I\u2019m going to do that, you will see me bring the piece of paper. And I am actively considering that,\u201d Fine said on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also cited allegations Omar has long denied and what he described as her \u201cgeneral embrace of Muslim terror\u201d as reasons for weighing the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think she should be a citizen, let alone a member of Congress,\u201d Fine added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Omar brushed off the threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think anybody takes that man serious,\u201d she told Axios. \u201cI don\u2019t think he takes himself\u00a0serious, so nobody should worry about anything he says.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Omar has repeatedly clashed with Republicans and has previously been the target of unsuccessful disciplinary efforts, including a censure attempt this year. She was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in 2023 over her criticism of Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since entering Congress earlier this year, Fine has built a reputation as one of the chamber\u2019s most outspoken supporters of Israel and a vocal critic of lawmakers he accuses of excusing or minimizing terrorism. His comments on the Israel-Hamas war and on U.S. policy toward the Middle East have drawn sharp reactions from Democrats, particularly Omar, a Somali-American Muslim and one of Israel\u2019s fiercest critics in Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
